Jaymini Sahai is one of the most exciting artists to emerge from the new generation of UK based South Asian dance artists. Beginning her Kathak training in the UK in 1983, Jaymini gained her diploma in Kathak in 1995 and since then she has been performing nationally and internationally in both professional productions and community events. She regularly conducts school and community related dance work.
She set up her company, “Aradhana”, to present Kathak in it’s original pure form. In addition to performing and choreographing her own productions, Jaymini is a teacher of Kathak and holds regular classes, lecture demonstrations and residencies nationally and internationally.
Indian Classical dance and music is considered a spiritual art form which nurtures the mind, body and soul. Although the company was formed at the beginning of 2009 by Jaymini and Sanju Sahai their work has spanned over 3 decades. The aim of the company is to bring people together using Indian Classical Music and Dance as a medium.
The company's focus is to develop and nurture Indian Classical Music and Dance through workshops, teaching, residentials and performance work and ensure that the purity and integrity of the spiritual classical dance and music forms are not compromised. Aradhana was founded in London but operates regionally, nationally and internationally in a variety of distinctive and innovative work ranging from working with young children in nurseries to performing at the Sydney Opera House in Australia.
Aradhana Art's education and community wing delivers highly professional workshops and residencies in Indian Dance and Music to schools, special needs schools, colleges, universities, day centres, hospitals, prisons, festivals and other cultural organisations.
The company's delivery of workshops can be tailored to suit your particular requirements. We create and conduct workshops and residencies that are imaginative, inspiring and most of all enjoyable. Our education and community work is undertaken by a team of highly skilled and professional artists who can tailor the sessions to people of all ages, all backgrounds and abilities.
We provide resource materials to aid learning and development, thus getting workshop participants involved prior to the workshop / residency. We run workshops in classical dance and music ranging from one off "taster" sessions to one week residencies which can also lead to students showcasing and presenting their work. We are flexible in our approach and we can give you a completely unique solution. South Asian culture is rich in tradition and through our educational and community work we aim to raise awareness of this through our dance and music.
